Tatarstan cinematography presents groundbreaking creative projects at KIMFF

After long and stormy discussions, the selection sommittee of the XVIII Kazan International Muslim Film Festival compiled a list of films, included in “National competition” nomination. Traditionally, it includes 10 films made in Tatarstan – from short to full-length films.
Among the first ones are “We are the children of the 1941” by Amir Galiaskarov and “Republic 99” by Julia Zakharova, Adel Takkeze, Sofya Silkina.
Eight out of ten are short films by directors Sergey Bataev (“The Parallels”), Zufar Khairullin (“Missioner”), Azat Davletshin (“Alone in the Mountains”), Amir Salyanov (“The night has come”), Alexander Dalmatov (“Tatar region. Troitsk”), Chuong The Thien (“Hallway of Memories”), Yelizaveta Yeliseeva (“Tash) and Akhmadzhon Oev (“Uncle Misha”).
According to the selection committee member Timur Shaihullin, this year very worthy works are presented. “It is good that Tatarstan cinematography has been presenting groundbreaking creative projects in recent years”, he noted.
It is noteworthy that this year’s competition includes films made by Tatarstan in co-production: with Tajikistan (“Uncle Misha”) and Vietnam (“Hallway of Memories”).
According to the chairman of the selection committee Nina Kochelyaeva, thus the republican cinematography “groped” a new tendency of development. Working in co-production with other countries allows Tatarstan cinematography enter the international stage.
“This new tendency in Tatarstan cinematography which is confirmed by the participation of “Tarlan” by Julia Zakharova, made in co-production with Kazakhstan and Tatarstan, in the main international competition. All films are dedicated to the people’s stories, all of them are interesting and fascinating in their own way”, shared her views the chairman of the section committee Nina Kochelyaeva.
We remind that Tatarstan films are presented in all nominations of this year’s competition. Feature short films are completed by Rifat Mindubaev’s “Galiyabanu”. Among the full-length and short documentaries are Tatarstan films “Gabdrakhman” by Marsel Makhmutov and “Sosnovyi spring” by Bulat Minkin.
We remind you that according to the Regulations, the competition program consists of 10 films in each nomination – a competition of feature full-length and short, documentary full-length and short films, as well as a national competition. Totally 625 applications from 44 countries of the world were registered this year.
The XVIII Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will take place from September 7 to 11 with the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and in the partnership with the strategic vision group “Russia – Islamic world”.
