19 April 2019

On April 20, the series of press-screenings of the films of the competition and out-of-competition programmes of the 15th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will start at the Mir Cinema. This year, the films will be presented by Sergey Anashkin, a film expert and a member of the selection committee of the festival.

On April 20 (14.00), the opening film, Imam Abu Isa Muhammad Termizy (by A. Mignarov, Uzbekistan, 2019) will be screened in Mir Cinema. The film reflects the childhood, youth and mature years of the author of As-Sunan Hadith.

On April 21 (14.00), the press screening will be devoted to the full length feature nomination of the competition programme with Rona, the mother of Azim (by J. Mahmoudi, Afghanistan, Iran, 2018). Azim is an Afghani refugee, who works at nights in the municipality and lives with his family in Tehran. He accidentally finds out that his mother needs an urgent kidney transplantation or otherwise she may die in 2 months. He starts to search for a donor, but it turns out that it is forbidden to Iranians to be donors for foreigners. Therefore, he should choose between his own life and the life of his mother by becoming her donor.

On April 22 (14.00), the press screening will focus on the Russia - Islamic World section of the out-of-competition programme of the festival with Mabata Bata (by S. de Carvalho, Mozambique, Portugal, 2018). The film is an adaptation of a story by Mia Couto.

On April 23 (16.00), the press event will highlight the special screenings of the festival with Letters of Sofia (by R. Mallan, the UK, Lithuania, 2013). The film is based on the real story of the relations between Mikalojus Čiurlionis, a Lithuanian artist and composer, his wife and Sophia Kimantaite, a Lithuanian writer and public activist. The film will be presented by Rokas Zubovas, a Lithuanian musician and a great-grandson of M. Čiurlionis.
