Kazan International Film Festival is back to “Altyn Minbar” name

The XX Kazan International Film Festival gets back to its original name “Altyn Minbar”

The Russian International Muslim Film Festival was established in April 2004 in Moscow under the name “Altyn Minbar”. The opening year is considered to be 2005, when the forum took place in Kazan. Due to some misunderstanding among the founders it was decided to hold the further festivals independently under a different name while retaining its history and numbering.

Within its course of existence, KIMFF has acquired the status of a prestigious cinematographers’ forum, has become an essential part of cultural life of Kazan, contributing to the strengthening the city’s image as a cultural capital.

This year, before the XX film forum, the organizing committee decided to take back the former brand name “Altyn Minbar”.

The Selection committee of the XX film festival is formed by: Timur Shaikhullin, the Doctor of Philology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Philology and Country studies of the Russian Islamic Institute; Svetlana Slapke, Doctor of Philosophy and Arts, film critic, the author of articles and publications about culture and cinema of Central Asia and Türkiye, CEO of “Eurasia Global Connecting Agency” and Rushan Abbyasov deputy chairman and head of staff of Muftis Council of Russia, chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Moscow region.

As well as the previous year the Selection Committee is headed by Nina Kochelyaeva, the historian, cultural scientist, Director of the New Institute of Cultural Studies, researcher of VGIK, and doctoral candidate of the Laboratory of practice and technologies of intercultural dialogue modelling in the Russian Federation of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

“Altyn Minbar” will take place in Kazan from September 6 to 11. Those willing to submit a film for participation may send entry forms on e-mail info@kazan-mfmk.com till June 1.

The Selection Committee will finish its work by the beginning of July. After this, the official selection will be announced. It will include Russian and foreign films reflecting universal moral and spiritual values and cultural traditions conveying the ideas of peacemaking, tolerance, and humanism.

It is worthy to note that “Altyn Minbar” is included in the list of cinematography projects supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The Kazan International Film Festival is held under the support of the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, as well as in partnership with Strategic Vision Group “Russia-Islamic World”.
