From Sweden to India: the winners of the XVII Kazan Film Festival will be chosen by the jury members from 10 countries of the world

The jury of the XVII Kazan International Muslim Film Festival which will be held in the capital of Tatarstan from September 5 to 10, has become known. The films will be evaluated by film makers from 10 countries of the world – from Sweden to India.

The Chairman of the jury of the XVII film forum is Azerbaijanian film director, screenwriter, actor, producer, co-founder of The Society of promotion of the documentaries and author programs Elchin Musaoglu. He is mostly known by his film “The 40^th door” titled in American, Azerbaijanian, German, Montenegrin and Kazakhstani film festivals. And by the film “Tocsin” – Venice film festival and “Oscar” nominee in “The best foreign film” category.

One of the jury members is the Director of the Casablanca Film Festival, film critic Jerome Ammadi (Marocco), Director of Arabic Film Festival in Geteborg, member of the Sweden Writers Association Fajr Yakoub (Sweden), film director, technical director of International Mediterranean Film Festival in Tunis Almohannad Kalthom (Syria), poet, translator, film director, screenwriter, honored artist of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Kairbekov (Kazakhstan), film critic, screenwriter, executive director of GN Interpartners group Valeria Baykeeva (Russia).

Also among the jury members of KIMFF-2021 are film and TV director, screenwriter Kamal Swaroop (India), DOP, film director, teacher of cinematography, cinema history, and editing Sayed Nejati (Iran), poet, writer, journalist Ashraf Dali (Egypt) and Turkish actor, well known for the roles of eunuch in “The Magnificent Century” series and Chandarly Khalil-pasha in Netflix mini-series “Rise of Empires: Ottoman” Selim Bayraktar (Turkey).

The experts are to evaluate 50 films of competition program – 10 films in 5 main nominations (full-length and short-length feature, full-length and short-length documentaries and “National competition”).

We remind you that the applications for participation in Kazan Film Festival were accepted from February 1 to June 1 of this year. Within the application campaign 584 applications from 45 countries of the world were received. Films for the main competition program were selected under guidance of Kazakh film expert and critic, President of Film Critics Association of Kazakhstan Gulnara Abikeeva.

This year films of Kazan International Film Festival will be shown in “Rodina” and “Mir” movie theaters. The opening ceremony of the largest film forum will be held on September 5 in Kazan Town Hall and the closing ceremony – on September 10 on the stage of KRK “Pyramid”. Apart from competition program the audience will be presented large out of competition and parallel programs.

The Festival has been held in the capital of Tatarstan since 2005. The program contains films of local and foreign cinematography, that call for tolerance, peace and justice (regardless the author’s religion). The motto of the festival – “From the dialogue of cultures - to the culture of dialogue”.

XVII Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will traditionally be held with the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the partnership with strategic vision group “Russia – Islamic world”. The founders of the festival are the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Council of Muftis of the Russian Federation.
