16th edition of the Kazan Muslim Film Festival has received over 500 entries

29 April 2020

The number of entries submitted to the 16th Kazan Film Festival 2020 was announced by Milyausha Aytuganova, the director of Tatarkino, at the press-conference of Tatar Inform News Agency held on 28 April 2020.

She noted that the entries were received from 52 countries. The films produced in 2019-2020 corresponding to the focus of the festival are accepted for participation regardless of their religious or national background.

In 2020, the rules of the festival have been amended concerning its competitive nominations: now 12 full-length feature films, 10 full-length documentaries, 20 short feature films and 10 films of the National Program will compete for the prizes. The entries are accepted until June 1.

This year, one of the key themes of the festival this year is the 100th anniversary of Tatarstan: several programs are dedicated to this important date for the Republic. Moreover, the films of Iran, Kyrgyzstan and other countries will also form parallel programs, which also include the retrospectives of Sergey Bondarchuk, Alexander Proshkin and Vladimir Menshov.

The Mir cinema was chosen as the main venue for the 16th edition of the Kazan Film Festival. Other locations of the festival are to be confirmed after the end of the quarantine. Several online communication sessions with actors and directors of the films included in the competitive and non-competitive programs of the festival are scheduled due to the current circumstances.
