14th Kazan Muslim Film Festival Press Screenings Launched at Mir Cinema

6 August 2018

The series of press screenings of the 14th edition of the Kazan Muslim Film Festival began at Mir Cinema. The first film shown to the representatives of media this year was Not Strangers by Vera Glagoleva.

This work of the popular Russian actress and director was presented by Irina Ulyanova, a member of Tatarkino, who told about the context of the film as well as about other films by Vera Glagoleva (‘One War’ and ‘Two Women’) that participated in the Kazan Muslim Film Festival in previous years.

It is necessary to mention that the works selected for press-screenings are aimed to represent the overview of the themes to be highlighted by the upcoming festival. For instance, ‘Not Strangers’ has entered the competition programme of the festival (full length feature nomination), reflecting the focus of the festival on the culture of dialogue and revealing the history of relations between the representatives of two different ethic groups in post-Soviet Russia. Moreover, the press-screening of this film could be seen as a tribute to the memory of Vera Glagoleva, who passed away on 16 August 2017. Her last film has been screened only within the framework of film festivals. However, ‘Not Strangers’ is supposed to be realised in cinemas this autumn.

Four more press-screenings of the films from the competition and out-of-competition programmes of the 14th Kazan Muslim Film Festival is coming soon. The last press-screening on 28 August 2018 will be devoted to the festival’s opening film.
