The accepting of applications for the XVIII Kazan International Muslim Film Festival ends June 1, 2022. KIMFF-2022 will take place in Kazan from September 7 to 11, 2022 with the support of the President of Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and in the partnership with the strategic vision group “Russia – Islamic world”.
In accordance with the Regulations of KIMFF-2022, those who would like to submit their film for participation in the festival should officially inform the Directorate no later than June 1, 2022. The Selection Committee will finish its work by the beginning of July, after which the competition program will be announced. The shortlist will be made by: Nina Kochelyaeva (Russia) – the Chairman of the Selection Committee, historian, cultural scientist, director of New Institute of Cultural Studies, researcher of VGIK, doctoral candidate of the Laboratory of practice and technologies of intercultural dialogue modelling in the Russian Federation of Russian academy of national economy and state service under the President of Russia, Svetlana Slapke (Germany) – Doctor of Philosophy and Art History, film critic, author of articles and publications about culture and cinema of Central Asia and Turkey, CEO of “Eurasia Global Connecting” Agency. Also, the Selection Committee is joined by Timur Shaikhullin, Doctor of Philology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the department of Philology and Country Studies of Russian Islamic Institute who also previously did this work.
Full-length and short feature films, as well as short and full-length documentary films can take part in the competition program of the Kazan film festival. Selected by the Committee, Russian and foreign films, reflecting universal moral values and cultural traditions, bearing the ideas of peacemaking, religious tolerance and humanism are included in the competition program of the festival.
Apart from competition program the audience will also be introduced to wide non-competition and parallel program. Non-competition program presents the best examples of Russian, foreign, documentary and animated films, retrospective and thematic programs.
As Milyausha Aituganova, the executive director of Kazan International Muslim Film Festival has said, the main focus of the upcoming festival will be on the significant date for Russian Muslims – the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria.

Kazan International Muslim Film Festival has been held in the capital of Tatarstan since 2005. The first festival was organized on the initiative of the Council of Muftis of Russia, the Federal agency for culture and cinematography of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan with the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The founders of the festival are the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Centralized Muslim Religious Organization Council of Muftis of Russia, the Executive Committee of municipality of Kazan. The festival is organized by “Tatarkino” together with the Regional department of All-Russian public organization “Cinematographers Union of the Russian Federation” of the Republic of Tatarstan.
During its existence the festival has gained the status of a prestigious forum of cinematographers, has become an essential attribute of the cultural life of Kazan, an event which contributes to strengthening the image of Kazan as the cultural capital. Kazan International Muslim Film Festival is held under the motto “Through the dialogue of cultures to the culture of dialogue”.
