At the height of his fame a Tatar poet Musa Jalil goes to the front, finds himself in Myasnoy Bor - Valley of Death and is taken prisoner by the Nazis. Surviving in unhuman conditions, Musa goes on writing his poems. 
His poetry becomes a hope for all those around him. A sharp will to live and talent let him become one of the organizers of the resistance against fascism. The poet himself will not return home and will be executed in the Pletzensee prison in Berlin.
