“The most precious thing a man has is - honour": a press conference with the participants of the ”Short feature film” nomination was held in the press center of the film festival.

7 September 2024

Today, the press center of the film festival hosted a press conference with the participants of the “Short Feature Film” nomination. The event was attended by directors Rafael Mukaev (Karachay-Cherkess Republic), Mustapha Farmati (Morocco), Yones Ben Hajria (Tunisia), Pairav Sharifov (Tajikistan), Akanshya Bhagabati (India).

Rafael Mukaev is in Kazan for the first time, and has greatly surprised by the city. This is love at first sight, notes the director of the film “Honor”.

“For me, as a Muslim, a man comes first. No one denies that mom is golden. But I will never put my mother above my father. Because we have such a saying in the Caucasus: 'When your father dies, you lose your way. When your mother dies, you become an orphan. Yes, the importance of the mother is huge. But a father is the one who made a man out of you, the one who teaches you life, instills honour in you, decency, love for the motherland. This is very important to me. I shot a film, and this is the way of my characters, whom the old man brings up, as he should bring up according to the Quran. At the end, my character says: “The most precious thing a man has is honour,” R. Mukaev stressed.

Mustapha Farmati, the director of film “The Last Wave”, has only five short feature films in his portfolio so far, with which he has already participated in various film festivals (Morocco, Cameroon and others).

“Kazan is the farthest place my film has reached for today. My film has values that don't depend on the location. The most important value of this festival is the focus on family. My film reflects songs or poems that reveal family ties. Despite this, there are connections between family members who have made sacrificed. This subject reflects the philosophy of my life as a filmmaker. I believe that our presence in this life is not for the sake of matter, money. The purpose of our existence is love between people. These are the feelings that find the most beautiful feelings, this is family,” summarized the director.

Yones Ben Hajria, director of the film “Sufism”, made his film debut in 2008. He also does not hide his love for Kazan and even wants to make a film here next year.

“Life is a film, cinema is life. I was even asked today: “How did you make a film out of these materials?” Each person can create a film for himself in this life,” commented the Tunisian representative.

His film traces the relationship between a man and a woman. “We came out of women. Our sources are women. A woman is the one who connects all the threads of life. There is a well-known proverb: “When a child loses his mother, he turns into an old man.” A woman is sacred to me. Because for me she is my mother, my sister, my wife,” noted Yones Ben Hajria.

Pairav Sharifov had heard positively about the Kazan International Film Festival long ago: films from Tajikistan took part in it every year. His film “Ungernia” touches the subject of the family and the importance of reuniting family members with each other.

The film “Son of His Land” (directed by Akanshya Bhagabati) reveals the problem of division of family's property.

“This problem is typical not only for our country, but also for many countries. Discussing this subject, we must keep in mind the rights of both sides. I tried to keep a neutral position. Because it is the viewers who decide,” commented A.Bhagabati.

We remind that the XX Kazan International Festival “Altyn minbar” will be held from September 6 to 11, 2024. The motto of the festival: “Through the dialog of cultures - to the culture of dialog” calls the whole world to friendship and cooperation of representatives of all nationalities and religions in the language of cinema.
