Within six days, the “Altyn minbar” Kazan International Film Festival, will present 141 films from 40 countries. Apart from the 51 officially selected films, the audience will see 90 films within the non-competition and parallel programs.
Especially attractive is the non-competition program “War and the World: New Territories.” It contains ten films reflecting the reality of the new Russian regions.
It is worthy of note that this topic interests not only experienced filmmakers such as Eugene Mukhortin(The Dolls, Books, and War. Donetsk: December 2022) and Zufar Davletshin (Charged by the Victory and Defenders) but promising debutants as well. For example, Road by Daniil Yemelyanov was his graduation work.
The theme of family runs through the whole festival. It is brightly reflected in the program “To the Cinema with the Whole Family.”
“This year, family values are touched upon in all films. We want to show these ten films to the residents and guests of the city during the open-air screenings. The screenings will be held at two venues: in public places of the Kazan Kremlin and on the Kaban Lake embankment, said the executive director of the film festival, the director of “Tatarkino” Miliausha Aituganova.
And those who like the comfort of cinema halls are invited to the “Mir” cinema.
“I would personally recommend watching Where the White Cranes Dance by Mikhail Lukachevsky. The outstanding Yakutian drama is actively screened at world-class festivals. For instance, it has been recently screened in China, said M. Aituganova.
Also, there are traditional non-competition programs. The chairman of the selection committee, Nina Kochelyaeva, said that it is gratifying to note that, for the first time in recent years, the Russia-Islamic world program and the festival in general are completed by the Rose Water film from Bahrain.
As always, “The Turkic World” program amazes with the conveying of its mentality. “In spite of the fact that the world is huge, it is connected by a common history”, said Miliausha Aituganova.
It is also interesting to note that within the “BRICS Countries: Modern Cinematography” program, the audience will see one film from almost all countries that are part of the intergovernmental organization.
The ethnic theme is continued by the original program “The Fate of Indian Cinema” by film critic Sergey Anashkin.
There is one more fascinating theme this year: “Islam in Faces”. There are four films in the program, two of which tell about eminent Muslim leaders Mullah Hussein and Zainulla Rasulev.
The program is also completed by the films of a young filmmaker, Amir Abbyasov, who specializes in Islamic films.
The “Altyn minbar” film festival also pays attention to the young cinematographers and becomes a venue for the implementation of their ideas. Thus, this year the audience will be introduced to the 90-minute non-competition programs “KazGik presents” and “PiterKit presents,” compiled of films by the alumni of the higher institutions.
Also, a vast program is planned for the 100thanniversary of Tatarstan Cinema, the details of which will be available on the film festival website.
Furthermore, there will be cinema days in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and India. Apart from screenings, Q&A sessions with the representatives of the mentioned countries presenting films will be held.
Miliausha Aituganova also added that the Kazan audience will see Malaysian films on the big screen for the first time. Malaysia has been developing in this direction, and its representatives are interested in cooperating with Tatarstan filmmakers.
We remind you that the “Altyn minbar” film festival will be opened by the In the Arms of Tree film directed by Babak Khadjepashi. This is the Russian premiere: in our country and particularly in Kazan, this film has its first screening.
The XX “Altyn minbar” Kazan International Film Festival will take place from September 6 to 11, 2024.
Would like to emphasize that “Altyn Minbar” is included in the list of film projects supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The Kazan International Film Festival is held with the support of the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the Ministry of Culture of Russia, and in partnership with the strategic vision group “Russia-Islamic World.”
