Eastern Cinematograph Cardinals, Hollywood Delegation and Russian Stars: Who is Who on the Red Carpet of the 14th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival

On 4 September 2018, the opening ceremony of the 14th edition of the Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will be held at Pyramida Cultural and Entertainment Complex. The red carpet of the ceremony will bring together famous actors, directors, producers and film critics from all over the world.

Among the Russian actors to attend the ceremony, it is necessary to mention people’s artists as Irina Alferova, Emmanuil Vitorgan and Marat Basharov.

This year, it is the first time, when the Kazan Muslim Film Festival is visited by a delegation from Hollywood: a director Anouar H. Smaine and actors Sean Stone and Amina Zaman will present their new work ‘Battle Fields’. The film tells the story of an American veteran of the Iraq war and an Iraqi driver, who lives in Los Angeles as a refugee. The creators of the film aimed to highlight the issue of post-traumatic stress disorder, from which participants of military operations might suffer. It is interesting to mention that the featured actor, Sean Stone, has adopted Islam in 2012 during his work on a documentary film in Iran.

Another famous American actor of Polish descent to attend the festival is Marek Probosz, who is a member of the jury board of the 14th edition. He is a film, television and stage actor and known across Eastern Europe as the “De Niro of Poland”. Probosz has more than 50 starring roles to his credit. Many of his films have competed in key international festivals including Venice and Cannes.

The jury of the festival will also include a documentary film maker Emanuele Gerosa (Italy), the director of the Oran International Film Festival Seddiki Ibrahim (Algeria), a film director, script-writer and producer Ernest Abdyjaparov (Kyrgyzstan, his work ‘Sayakbay’ is the opening film of the 14th Kazan Muslim Film Festival), a director and a cameraman, a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR Shukhrat Makhmudov (Uzbekistan), a film director and the chairman of several film festivals in the Arab world, Rashid Fershiu (Tunisia), a film director Oktay Mirkasym (Azerbaijan), a film critic Sherif Awad (Egypt), a director of documentary TV films and a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation Elena Plygatyryeva (Russia), a film director and the winner of the grand-prix of the Kazan Muslim Film Festival – 2017 Mustafa Kara (Turkey), the director of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve and a laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan in Culture Zilya Valeeva (Russia). The jury chair is a people’s artists of the USSR Maya-Gozel Aimedova (Turkmenistan).

The Turkish actors Serdar Goekhan, Ergun Kuyuju and Shukru Babajan will also attend the opening ceremony of the festival.

The festival will be opened by the chairman of the Russian Council of Muftis, Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin.

‘This year, the festival will be attended by delegations from Turkey, Egypt, USA and Kyrgyzstan’, comments Milyausha Aituganova, the executive director of the Kazan Muslim Film Festival. Moreover, several partnership agreements with major Eastern film festivals will be signed during the festival. We are expecting to welcome a number of interesting guests, including a South Korean professor focusing on the development of regional film industries in Russia, Hong San Wu and famous American and European actors’.
