Kazan Film Festival 2018 Jury Announced

The festival organizing committee has announced 12 jury members from 11 countries that will participate in the 2018 Kazan Film Festival. For the first time, the jury board will be headed by a woman, a famous Turkmen actress, a People’s Artist of the USSR, Maya-Gozel Aimedova.

The 2018 Kazan Film Festival jury members are an actor, screenwriter, film director and producer Marek Probosz (USA), a documentary filmmaker Emanuele Gerosa (Italy), the director of the Oran International Film Festival Ibrahim Seddiqi (Algeria), a film director, producer and screenwriter Ernest Abdyjaparov (Kyrgyzstan), a film director, screenwriter, producer Shuhrat Makhmudov (Uzbekistan), a film director Rashid Fershiou (Tunisia), a film director Oktay Mir-Kasym (Azerbaijan), a film critic Sherif Awad (Egypt) and a professor of the Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television, documentary filmmaker Elena Plugatyreva (Russia). The winner of the grand-prix of the 2017 edition of the festival Mustafa Kara (‘Cold of Kalandar’, Turkey) is also invited to be a member of the 2018 jury.  The first chair of the festival organising committee, one of the masterminds and founders of the Kazan Film Festival, the director of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve Zilya Valeeva will also join the jury.

The jury will evaluate 65 films of the competition programme (the short list is available at: kazan-mfmk.com) in the following categories: full length feature, short feature, full length documentary, short documentary, Young Russia (films by emerging Russian directors) and National Competition (films produced in Tatarstan or directed by Tatarstan filmmakers).

The 14th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will be held from 4 to 10 September 2018 with the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and in partnership with the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group. Its opening ceremony will be traditionally hosted by Pyramida Complex; its closing ceremony will be held at Hermitage Concert Hall.
 
The screenings of competition and out-of-competition programmes will be held at Almaz Cinema Port at Riviera Complex, whereas Mir Cinema will showcase the festival’s parallel programmes.
